Search options and field

When we've got data, we can start to search. If you're registered, you can search your databases in four modes: basic search, file search, folder search, advanced search.

  • basic search icon basic search - simply searches for phrase you write in - if you're registered, you can switch between case insensitive (don't use capital letters) and case sensitive mode, clicking the case icon.
  • file search icon file search - searches for files only
  • folder search icon folder search - searches for folders only
  • advanced search icon advanced search - uses SQL commands and special window for searching eg. "size > 400000" command returns list of all items with size over 400 000 bytes. You will learn more about advanced search mode later.

Clicking mode icon, you switch into another mode.

You can also set if you want to use:

  • case sensitive search case sensitive search - will find only records, that match the exact phrase you wrote, making difference between capitals and small letters -> A≠a.
  • case insensitive search case insensitive search - will find all records, that match phrase you wrote, not making difference between capital and small letters -> A=a. Please, if you use case insensitive search, don't use capitals - results may not be correct.

Spotlight support Registered Mac OS X users can include Spotlight search with their DiskLister search. In basic search mode, check the checkbox next to Spotlight icon - icon will change from grey to color. Now when you search, Spotlight results will be attached after the results of DiskLister databases.

Search options and field Before you start search, you may want to select, which databases should be searched. You can do it by clicking checkbox in the collumn with the "s" title (s = search).
Column with "d" in the title is used to mark database that we want to automaticaly load at start.

After you wrote the phrase into the search field and selected databases to search, press the ENTER (RETURN) key - all selected databases will be searched. The search results tab search tab appears and it starts to be filled with results - you can stop it clicking the stop icon Stop

Search result window

It contains list of results - when you select one, its absolute path appears in top field. When you double click it and the target destination is available and it's not folder/directory, the file is opened. If you hold down the ALT (OPTION) key when double clicking selected item, it will be listed in the Operating System (OS).
